What is Amazon FBA and How Does It Work

How Does Amazon FBA Work? Fees, Set Up & Who It's For

Amazon FBA is a program that allows online sellers to ship products to Amazon’s fulfillment centers. Once products are stored in these warehouses, Amazon handles the picking, packing and shipping of all orders. Customers are also given access to Amazon’s award-winning customer service.

The FBA program was launched in 2006 and has since become one of the most popular ways to sell products directly to customer or wholesale selling on Amazon. This is because it offers great benefits for both sellers and buyers.

An increasing number of sellers are joining the FBA program because it takes care of so many things for them. In this article, we’ll cover what exactly Amazon FBA is and how it works.

What is Amazon FBA

Amazon FBA stands for “Fulfillment-by-Amazon” and is an optional service that Amazon offers to its sellers. In a nutshell, when someone buys one of your products, Amazon will automatically store it in their warehouse, package it up, and ship it directly to your customer.

Amazon will also provide customer service for the product should anyone have any questions or problems using it.

So how does Amazon FBA work?

When you sell a product on the Amazon marketplace, you are given three options when it comes to fulfilling orders:

Seller fulfilled: You can choose to handle storage, packaging, and shipping yourself (often called “Fulfilled-by-Merchant” or “FBM”). This gives you complete control over your order processing but also means you need to keep track of inventory levels, manage stock reorder points, and organize the logistics of shipping each order. You can also apply to become an Amazon Seller Fulfilled Prime seller which allows you to send Prime orders through this method if you meet certain performance criteria.

Outsourcing fulfillment: You can hire a third party company or individual to handle storage, packing and shipping for you (often called “Fulfilled-by-3rd Party”).

How does it work?

Amazon FBA is a program that enables sellers to leverage Amazon’s resources to increase marketplace sales. The FBA program allows sellers to have their products stored in Amazon’s fulfillment centers. In this way, Amazon picks, packs and ships them to the customers directly when they buy your product.

In return, you pay a fee for the storage and services.

FBA is a powerful tool for ecommerce businesses of all sizes. Sellers can make use of the benefits of FBA even if they don’t sell exclusively on Amazon. In fact, it’s not unusual for successful sellers to use multiple channels, including their own websites, other marketplaces and brick-and-mortar stores.

FBA fulfills your orders. FBA is short for Fulfillment by Amazon. With this program, you can send your products to Amazon’s warehouses, where they’ll store them until someone buys them. Then, when someone purchases one of your items, Amazon will ship it directly to the buyer.
